Learn How to Use Humor with Purpose (not chance)

You already know humor makes life better.

It breaks tension, builds connection, and transforms dull meetings into something people actually care about.

But when it comes to using humor at work, most people have no idea where to start. They either hold back because they’re afraid of saying the wrong thing… or they wing it and hope it lands.

The result is missed opportunities, awkward silences, or worse: a “see me in my office... NOW!” moment.

That’s why I created The Skill of Humor: Live Lab — your chance to be part of the very first group learning how to make humor work on purpose.

About the Live Lab

Before the full 8-week Skill of Humor Masterclass launches next year, I’m hosting a beta version, a 4-hour live virtual training on Saturday, November 8 (9am–1pm ET).

This Founding Cohort will be a small, hands-on group of about a dozen or so participants, where you’ll learn a practical, research-backed framework for building your Skill of Humor right away.

✔︎ No gimmicks.
✔︎ No stand-up routines.
✔︎ No mandatory fun.

Just research-backed tools and real-world practice to help you:

  • Communicate with clarity and confidence

  • Connect with people more authentically

  • Make work feel a little more human (and a lot less exhausting)

What You'll Gain

During the lab, we’ll explore all eight Humor Competencies,   the building blocks of humor that anyone can learn:

Appreciation • Consideration • Curation • Creation • Performance • Facilitation • Application • Empowerment

You’ll walk away with:
✔︎ A framework to notice what’s funny
✔︎ Tools to create humor that fits your style
✔︎ Strategies to use humor intentionally to improve communication, leadership, and collaboration
✔︎ Confidence in your unique humor style

You’ll leave with fresh ideas, actionable tools, and maybe even a few jokes you’re actually proud to tell.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be funny to join?

Nope. You just have to be human. This session isn’t about turning you into a comedian, it’s about helping you use humor as a practical skill to communicate better, connect better, and enjoy your work more. If you are funny already, great. You’ll have a head start and an audience that can’t leave.

Will this be recorded?

Yes! You’ll get replay access after the session. So if you miss a section, or you just want to relive the punchlines, you’re covered.

However, the replay is only available for people who attend live. What happens in the Zoom, stays in the Zoom.

What if I can’t make the full 4 hours?

No problem. You’ll still get the replay, your Humor Intelligence Report, and all the materials. Of course, being there for the full experience is where the magic (and the laughter) really happens, but you won’t miss out on the learning.

How is this different from the full Skill of Humor Masterclass?

This Founding Cohort is a condensed version,  4 hours instead of 3 days. It’s your chance to get a first look at the framework and help shape the final program. The full Masterclass launching next year will go much deeper, with guided practice, feedback sessions, and implementation tools. Think of this as the movie that leaves you wanting to watch an entire TV series.

What if I don’t get value from it?

Then I’ll refund you. Simple as that.

Since this is the founding group, my plan is to over deliver and make it a wow experience you won't forget. But, if you attend and don’t feel it was worth your investment, just let me know and I’ll send your money back. No hard (or soft) feelings.

Will there be dad jokes?

Almost certainly. But they’ll be well-timed, purpose-driven dad jokes that serve the learning objectives. (Which is kind of the point.)

Can I invite a friend or colleague?

Absolutely. If you know someone who could use more laughter at work, send them a link to this page. Just let them know spots are limited to about a dozen people.

Is this going to be… awkward?

Only in the best way. You’ll be laughing, learning, and trying new things in a small, supportive group. Any awkwardness is part of the process. I promise, as an introverted computer geek, it’s way more fun than it sounds.

I personally reply to every message.
